I often get asked by couples, ‘what do we do now?’
The date and time is the first thing you have to decide on. Remember, most people want to get married on a Saturday so all the facilities are stretched to the limit.
It’s important therefore, to contact me as soon as possible after selecting your date and time. This confirms that I am available and you can make an appointment to come and see me.
When you first make an appointment to see me I will ask you several questions:
· Have you or your partner been married before?
· If you or your partner have been married before I will need to see evidence of the dissolution of your last marriage that being either a Decree Absolute or Death Certificate. These have to be originals.
· Do you have your full Birth Certificate?
· I will need to see the full birth certificate of both parties if you were born in Australia.
· If you are travelling to Australia to get married from an overseas country than the same applies but your Passport can also be used as Identification.
During our first meeting, you will complete the Notification of Marriage form (NOIM) and this can be done without the above certificates but I will have to see those certificates prior to the wedding ceremony taking place.
I will also present to you a package containing a sample service, various verses and vows. I will work with you to make sure that the service that you finally select will be delivered in the most professional manner, making sure that everyone can hear me; that I always look presentable; that I will be there up to 20 minutes prior to the service; that I will process all the legal documentation for you. I will also have a table for signing the certificates and even have a sound system on which I can play your choice of CD music for the service. You will have a selection of ‘special’ Marriage Certificates, and as I am on line with Births Deaths and Marriages, registration of your marriage will be as soon as I return to my office after your wedding.
